BIGlittle fibreFIBRE, will look at assumptions about fibre and size, and fibre and applications. Artists are invited to explore and explode the assumptions and expectations that come with the medium and to submit works at the extremes of size and format - the very large and the very small from the outer reaches of the realm of fibre.
BIGlittle fibreFIBRE will run from Thursday October 11 2007 to Sunday November 25 2007. The wall-hung works will be shown on the third and fourth floors of the hotel for the full run of the show, and, to launch the show with a bang, the second floor will be dedicated to extreme scale installations for the first four days - 11 to 14 October 2007.
Size criteria: BIG FIBRE
- it must be physically possible to install big works
- into an exhibition room on the hotel's second floor for three-dimensional works
- on a continuous section of wall on the third or fourth floors for wall-hung works or installations
- as a rough guideline for minimum size, if it's smaller than you are, it's not big enough
- 2nd floor exhibition rooms range from roughly 9' x 15' to 12'x18' with 14' ceilings

- Continuous wall space is on the hotel's the third and fourth floors and ranges from 12' to 21' long. The ceiling heights are 12'(3rd floor) and 10' (4th floor)
Size Criteria: little fibre
- Artists entering work as little fibre are invited to submit individual works or grouping of pieces where each piece in the grouping fits within the size criteria.
- maximum size for wall works is 8-1/2" x 11" (21.5cm x 28cm) - the size of a piece of letter paper
- little fibre installations must fit into a space whose largest side is 8-1/2" x 11" (21.5cm x 28cm) as above.
- If your grouping is bigger than you are, it's a BIG FIBRE wall work.
Hanging/Installation - Physical Criteria:
- All pieces must be able to be hung/installed securely.
- The security hardware supplied by the Gladstone is 2-1/2" x 1" (5.5cm x 1.5 cm), and needs a mount 1/2" (1.5cm) thick to accommodate the screws.
- Artists whose work is accepted for the show and the nature of whose work makes this type of hanger impractical will be encouraged to discuss alternatives with the curators.
Artist Participation Fees:
BIG FIBRE: Room Installations (2nd floor) $500.00 + GST / Big wall works: $150.00 + GST
little fibre: Individual Wall Hung Works: $25.00 + GST / Groupings and/or little installations: 50.00 + GST

- Artist's bio - max 75 wds - word document
- Artist's statement - max 75 wds - word document
- Description of proposed work, including size, material and type (installation or wall-hung).
- 5 - 8 images of representative work in jpg format
- Digital Files may be sent as jpgs on a CD or as email attachments. Emailed image files should be no larger than 640 x 480 ppi (72 dpi) and must be numbered and named to correspond with the image list.
- Numbered image list giving size of works, medium and any other relevant details.
